We had a flood! Luckily, we’re in the Cloud!

One of our clients called us recently as they had a flood in their server room and there had been serious hardware damage. They share the building with a few other companies and also share the server room which was in the basement of the building.

Water had come in through the ceiling and penetrated several racks. Our client had a few items in their rack: a router, firewall and VoIP phone system. All this equipment instantly failed and needed to be replaced.

The first thing to note was that our client had no servers! We had moved all their data to the cloud and with Office 365 their data was resilient, secure and there was no single point of failure.  Unfortunately, the same could not be said for some of the other businesses in the building ☹!

Their connectivity was temporarily down but staff were still able to work from home or at the office using 4G dongles or mobile hotspots. The beauty of Office 365 is that you really can work from anywhere and still have access to all your data.

Remote working

As both the router and phone systems were managed by third parties, we were only responsible for the firewall and so placed an emergency order to get it replaced, reconfigured and installed within 24 hours. (In fact, we do offer Skype for Business hosted telephony solutions which remove the need for a physical phone system entirely!)

Our client was back up and running in no time with minimal impact to their business. Another great example of why we love Office 365!
